4th Annual Back to School Bash
On August 7th, 2018, we partnered with Thrivent Financial to host a Back to School Bash at Central Assembly. During this event, we were able to serve approximately 175 children outside of the Springfield Public Schools District. Each child that registered for the event was provided with school supplies, brand new tennis shoes, and books. There were also a number of resources made available to children and their parents to allow them to transition into the school year more easily.
Our Back to School Bash looked much different from years prior. This is because we were able to partner with Springfield Public Schools as they kicked off their first Ready. Set. Supply! initiative to bring supplies directly to the schools in Springfield. We were able to donate 3600 items to participating schools. We were also able to send supplies to 84 boys form the Good Samaritans Boys Ranch in Brighton, MO. The boys were excited to receive supplies and brand new shoes!
Our event at Central Assembly served students outside of Springfield Public Schools. Students who attended the event received supplies based on their grade level. Our list included Crayola crayons, dry erase markers, quart-sized bags, a spiral notebook, a pencil box, folders, scissors, colored pencils, highlighters, first aid kits, hand sanitizer, and a water bottle.
The students also received brand new tennis shoes from Kicks for Kids of the Ozarks. Kicks for Kids works to provide new shoes for kids in need each year. Scholastic Books also provided brand new books for those involved. Students were able to choose between books from within their grade level. Paul Mitchell provided vouchers for free haircuts. Students were able to end the event with a free sno cone from SnoBallz.
Our event also featured resources for parents from the following organizations:
Boost Mobile, Family Nutrition Educational Program, Family Support, Good Dads, Missouri State Vision Center, MSU Nursing, Resource Center, SingleMomzRock, Springfield Kids Directory, Vatterott College, Veterans Upward Bound, and Victory Mission
Thank you so much to everyone who was involved. We were able to directly impact approximately 3859 students in the Ozarks by bringing them the essentials for a great start to the school year!

2nd Annual Back to School Bash
On July 30th, Holland Elementary hosted a Back to School Bash for 300 students from Holland, Mark Twain and students of single moms. It was a collaborative effort between three organizations, Rise and Go, SingleMomzRock and Kicks for Kids of the Ozarks along with four area churches, South Haven Baptist, Messiah Lutheran, Southminster Presbyterian and Sunset Church of Christ.
Students received a free backpack, school supplies, free pair of tennis shoes as well as a free haircut voucher.
A resource fair compiled of educational partners and area community agencies were on site as well sharing about the opportunities for students to participate in after school programs among other things.
A huge thank you to the 60+ volunteers from our community who helped make this year a huge success. We look forward to seeing what next year's event brings!
